Co-founders Jonas Heuer and Philipp Arbter authored the article “Sustainable Yeast Oil – What the Fat?” for the SOFW Journal, outlining the technology behind Climate OilTM production using yeast cells. The article delves into the potential applications of this innovative method in the cosmetics industry and highlights the associated benefits, particularly the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) scope 3 emissions through a minimal carbon footprint from raw materials. The documentation reveals that the yeast strain Rhodotorula toruloides produces oils with fatty acid profiles resembling those of palm oil, containing antioxidative components such as beta-Carotene, Torulene, and Torularhodin. These components can exhibit protective properties when applied to the skin. Recognizing the significance of this contribution, the article received the SOFW award in the “Best Scientific Publication” category at this year’s SEPAWA congress in Berlin, within the fields of laundry and cleaning, cosmetics and personal care, as well as perfumery and fragrances, as published in the SOFW journal.
